Will this product still be loved, slept in and performing beautifully years from now?
Children's bedding shouldn't be disposable. It shouldn't be something families replace every season because the fabric wears out, the colours fade or trends change.
So we design differently. We make considered choices that give our products a longer life.
Because the longest-lasting product is almost always the most sustainable one.
The problem with the industry standard.
When I first started researching children's bedding, I realised the industry has its own version of fast fashion.
Cheap fabrics.
Printed finishes.
Artificial softening.
Seasonal collections.
Many of these decisions make products cheaper to manufacture, softer on day one or easier to sell next season.
But they often make them less durable.
That didn't sit right with me.
I wanted to make Minó something a family wants to keep.
So today, every decision we make is measured against longevity before anything else.
What we intentionally refuse to do
We don't buy off-the-shelf fabric.
Instead, we manufacture our own bespoke fabrics.
Rest Weave™ was developed specifically for children's sleep and engineered to balance temperature regulation, durability and softness in one fabric.
We don't digitally print colour onto fabric.
Instead, we dye the fabric and the yarn.
Many bedding brands print colour onto inexpensive white "greige" fabric because it's faster and cheaper.
Printed colour sits on the surface.
Dyed colour becomes part of the fibre itself.
It costs more, but it ages with the fabric instead of wearing off it.
We don't artificially soften our fabrics.
Stone washing and acid washing create instant softness by physically breaking down the fibres.
The result feels beautiful in a showroom.
But that softness comes from shortening the life of the fabric.
Instead, we spent months developing the correct balance of linen and cotton so the fabric becomes naturally softer with use while maintaining its strength over years of washing.
We don't design for seasons or chase trends.
We don't believe children's bedrooms should follow fashion calendars.
Instead, we create timeless colours, understated patterns and fabrics that work across every season.
When a product still feels right three years later, it stays on the bed instead of being replaced.
Why longevity is our sustainability strategy
People often think sustainability starts with certifications.
For us, it starts with durability.
A bedding set that lasts five years instead of one prevents far more waste than one that needs replacing because it faded, stretched, pilled or went out of style.
That's why longevity isn't just one sustainability initiative.
It is our sustainability strategy.
Everything else supports it.
Responsible manufacturing
Longevity only matters if it's supported by responsible manufacturing.
That's why we work with manufacturing partners who meet recognised international standards and continuously assess materials, finishes and packaging through the same lens we apply to our products.
This includes:
- OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified products
- GRS-certified manufacturing partners
- ECOCERT-compliant fragrance ingredients
- GMP-accredited cosmetic manufacturing
- Circular packaging principles using recyclable, compostable or reusable materials wherever possible
- Local New Zealand manufacturing where it meaningfully improves quality or reduces supply chain impact
These certifications support our philosophy.
They don't define it.
